Aye Aye Captain!

I won't be posting for the next two or three days because I am going sailing and there ain't internet on the yacht. I just thought I'd leave you guys with a little nautical post (if someone tells you it's out, tell them "It's very 'in' in New Zealand right now!"). Please note that I am not actually planning on wearing (or taking) any of these things sailing.

On the left we have this extremely-cute-but-also-tacky Fred Flare top that usually costs $32 but is on sail (hehe) for $4.99 and on the right we have towels (Lauren by Ralph Lauren) at Macy's for $30 each.

The bags are both Burberry. They are both $810 from Saks Fifth Avenue. These would be perfect for carrying my clothes on the boat or just carrying sports gear around school.
Hope you all have a fantastic new year's (and don't party too hard) and I'll see you all in 2007.

Factory Girl

I haven't seen Factory Girl, in fact it will probably only be released here in New Zealand in 10 months time. 6 months if it's a good movie. Apparently it came out in cinemas in the US today. The movie is about when Andy Warhol (Guy Pearce) met Edie Sedgwick (Sienna Miller). You can see the rest of the movie details here and you can view the trailer here. I was looking at some stills from the movie and I noticed how amazing the costumes were so I chose this post to find a 'Factory Girl' outfit that can be worn by people like you and me and that doesn't cost a fortune. Here's what I found:

The Inspiration:

I love this dress that Sienna wore on the set (note: this isn't actually from the movie, they didn't have cellphones then. It's just Sienna wearing one of the costumes). It's interesting and fun but still quite elegant. I did a bit of hunting around for a similar dress and the closest one that I could find is the dress below - $58 from Urban Outfitters. The boots are Calvin Klein, currently on sale for $149 (down from $200) from Macy's.

The Outfit:

The outfit is very simple, but can easily be accessorised to match your style. You can also replace the boots with ankle boots or boots without heels for a more relaxed look. This is one of those outfits where less is more.

Why the frown?

It's official. I have found the cutest bags on the internet. Totes, purses and messengers, all handmade by 17 year old Danielle LaFleur for her label 'Why the frown?' Each bag is original and you can even ask Danielle to custom make your own. I thought that this sounded fantastic, so I asked Danielle for an interview.

Duckie messenger bag - $45 (my personal fave!)

The Interview

How old were you when you started sewing bags and when did you decide to start your own label?
Danielle: I started sewing when I was about 10, I know, that is a little later than some other fashion designers- but I was afraid of the sewing machine! My first experiments with bags started about 3 years ago when I sewed a homecoming dress and used the leftover fabric to sew a clutch.
Do you have any rolemodels? If yes, who?
D: My mom. She is amazing and has always behind me 100% in everything I do. She encouraged me to follow my dreams in designing... Plus she didn't mind that I basically stole her sewing machine and used it at various hours of the night
What are your dreams for your label? Are you going to expand it or just stick to bags?
D: I would like it to be a label that people instantly recognize, that would be awesome. I am planning on expanding it, but for now bags are keeping me very busy.
For your first ever ad campaign, who would you get to model the bags?
D: I think I will stick to using real girls that don't normally model, after all they are the consumers. I also think it would be a positive example for girls.
On average, how long does it take to make one bag?
D: It takes anywhere between 4 and 6 hours depending on the bag. Everything has to be cut out and it takes a while to sew on the felt appliques.
If you had to choose one shop to exclusively stock your label, what shop would it be?
D: That's a toughie, I think FredFlare and I would be a good match

Sod off! Let me get my beauty sleep!

On second thoughts, stay and read my post. I was just doing a little bit of post-holiday-sale-surfing and I stumbled across some very cute blindfolds. I don't wear blindfolds when I'm not on a plane, but perhaps these would work a bit better than the ones that the airline gives you free. They come complete with messages on them, very useful for telling that air hostess how you feel about her adjusting your blanket while you're sleeping.

Or perhaps the one below if you drank a bit too much free champagne (not for me, I'm only 14 you know)

There are more on the website and they all usually cost $24, but are currently on sale for $21.

Prada for LG

Yes... You heard right, Prada has finally caught on to the fact that the whole D&G Razr thing sold pretty well, and now they've designed their own phone - for LG. The phone is going to have a touch screen and will come with a Prada leather case. Unlike the D&G Razr, the Prada phone will be a brand new design - not just a new paint job and a couple of logos. The pictures I've seen don't seem that great and I would probably choose the D&G one, it's prettier, way smaller and it's most likely more user friendly. Except for the bad quality photos it takes. I'll let you decide - here are the pics:

Snow Angel

I have to admit that I have never experienced a white Christmas, but that doesn't mean that I can't look like an angel in white. White clothes are cute, but white make up is hot enough to melt the snow (assuming that you live somewhere that it snows...). My personal favourite would have to be the MAC lipglass in "snow girl".I did a little bit of searching through beauty sites (mainly Sephora) and I found four of the most angelic beauty products of the season.

The three products on the left are from Urban Decay's Cocktail line (the Pina Colada range to be exact). The pearly white body powder is $30, the body balm is $25 and the lip gloss is $15. Just like pale is the new tan, white is so the new black (eyeliner that is). The "Mr Frosty" eye pencil is by Benefit and costs $18. All of these are from Sephora.

On the left, there is the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, which will give you a beautiful shimmer. It is $22 from Nordstrom. The Too Faced Liquid Light is a highlighter that comes in a small little package. Apply it anywhere for a beautiful sparkle. It costs $18.50 from Sephora.

You can easily achieve the Gemma Ward's doe-eyed look by dabbing a bit of white eyeshadow or eyeliner on the inner corners of your eyes (next to the bridge of your nose).
Oh, and MAC has a lot of products that are white, pearly or silver so check out the website or head to your local counter!

Vogue Brazil December 2006 - Isabelli Fontana

I think that if this gorgeous issue of Vogue Brazil is anything to go by, glam-bling is back! The dress modelled by Isabelli Fontana is simple and elegant and I don't think they could have chosen a better model.

The fashion spread is very elegant and the models look so poised. The lighting, in my opinion, is stunning and I think that the photographer (Jacques Dequeker) has done a good job.
You can check out the fashion spread here (scroll down a bit).

Gadgets and Gizmos

A decade ago, computers were for nerds and cellphones were unsightly bricks. Today however, there is a whole new type of consumer - the fashion conscious (like you and I). This has caused companies to redesign their products and make them fashionable. I have chosen some of my favourite chic gadgets and listed them below.

"Ew! Pre-owned? What's so chic about that?" I can imagine you cringing at the thought of a pre-owned iPod, but these ones are special - they have been customised by Colorware (and they come in the official colour of royalty - which is purple btw). In fact, Colorware customises many gadgets and their website has a 'design your own' feature too.

The fashion Gods (who go by the names "Dolce" and "Gabbana") have created their own versionof the ultra skinny, credit card sized Motorola RAZR cellphone. It comes in a stunning gold colour and it runs iTunes. All this comes at a price - $599 from Neiman Marcus.

You obviously have to listen to your iPod, and those white headphones are so yesterday, so what do you do? Target sells some very cute headphones and speakers that come in a very fashionable colour - pink! The headphones are $49.99 by V-Moda, the Orb speakers are $129.99 and the Mist 2 speakers are $49.99.

I hope everyone liked my first post!
